International Travel Packing List
This is a subtitle for your new post
Direct answer: Pack for international travel like documents and power are as important as shirts. Bring passport logistics, the right plug adapter, carry-on meds, and a day-one kit that works if your checked bag takes a vacation without you. Clothes still matter. Chaos usually starts with chargers and paperwork.
You won't forget anything because I won't let you.
What documents belong in your international packing list?
- Passport and required visas/authorizations
- Printed and digital copies of bookings
- Payment cards plus a small amount of destination cash if that fits your plan
- Emergency contact list
- Passport wallet or document organizer
Passport with blank pages and valid dates, entry paperwork your destination requires, proof of return or onward travel if asked, and digital plus paper backups of key confirmations. Keep copies separate from originals and save emergency contacts and lodging details offline, as recommended in CDC Pack Smart. Health insurance cards and any required vaccination records go with the docs, not in the suitcase lining.
Entry rules change. Confirm requirements on official sources such as State Department travel checklist and destination government sites before you pack assumptions. A passport wallet or family document organizer keeps the stack from turning into pocket confetti.

Which adapters and power gear should you pack?
- Destination-correct plug adapter
- Phone charger and power bank in carry-on
- Headphones
- Offline maps downloaded before you need them
Match the plug shape to your destination. Choose a compatible option for your itinerary, such as the International Travel Adapter with USB Ports or Anker Nano Travel Adapter 5-in-1. A plug adapter changes the plug shape, not necessarily the voltage; the linked Anker Nano does not convert voltage. Check device labels before you force a hair tool into foreign power.

Keep an Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K Slim in your carry-on or personal item. Under FAA lithium battery guidance, spare lithium batteries and power banks belong in the cabin, not checked baggage. If your carry-on is gate-checked, remove them and keep them with you. Protect battery terminals from short circuits, check the marked watt-hour rating, and confirm your airline's limits before travel. Do not travel with a damaged or recalled battery.

How should you pack meds, liquids, and a day-one kit?
Health and toiletries to keep accessible
- Medications in carry-on
- Basic toiletries within liquids rules
- Motion or sleep aids you already use at home only if appropriate for you
- Any clinician-recommended travel health items (confirm personally)
Day-one carry-on items
- One full change of clothes
- Spare underwear and socks
- Chargers and adapter
- Medications and documents
Keep medications in carry-on. Discuss a delay supply with your pharmacist or clinician and confirm the destination permits your medication and quantity. Keep prescriptions in their original labeled containers where possible, with copies of prescriptions. For destination health notices and vaccine guidance, start at CDC Pack Smart and talk with a clinician for personal advice. This packing list is not medical advice.
At U.S. airport screening, carry-on liquids, aerosols and gels generally must be in containers of 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less inside one quart-size bag under the TSA liquids rule. Medications and infant or child nourishment have exemptions; check TSA guidance for your items. Screening outside the United States follows local rules. Pack a complete day-one outfit and toiletries in carry-on so a delayed bag does not strand you in yesterday's plane clothes.
Use the carry-on packing list for airline bag strategy. If the international trip is a cruise embarkation, hand off to the cruise packing list after you clear the airport phase.

International travel packing FAQ
Do I need a voltage converter or just a plug adapter?
Often just a plug adapter for modern dual-voltage phone and laptop chargers. Hair tools and older devices may need a converter or a destination-voltage device. Read the label.
Should prescription meds go in checked luggage?
Keep them in carry-on. Checked bags can be delayed, and you do not want essential meds on a different continent than you.
How early should I check passport expiration rules?
Well before you buy nonrefundable plans. Some countries require months of validity beyond your travel dates. Confirm on official government sources.
Can I pack food for a long international flight?
Check your exact food with TSA before U.S. screening and check the destination customs or agriculture authority before arrival. An item allowed through airport security may still be restricted at the border.
What is the biggest international packing failure?
Perfect outfits and no working charger. Power and documents first, then wardrobe.
